Fantasy Grounds is a free ruleset engine which integrates with many D20 systems. The engine seamlessly supports multiple networked gaming tables with numerous game statistics and race and class options. Tome of Beasts Pack 1 is a free add-on for Fantasy Grounds which includes tokens for all 400 monsters from the tome. All monster tokens are designed for use with the tome of beasts as the core ruleset, although you can use them in any ruleset that works with the tome. It is suitable for stand-alone use as well as for extensive use with the Tome of Beasts as the main ruleset. Tome of Beasts Pack 1: Readme File: 1. Requirements This is a token pack for the Kobold Press Tome of Beasts. You will need the Tome of Beasts as the main ruleset. You will also need to have a subscription to Fantasy Grounds full or Ultimate on your network. You will need your Fantasy Grounds login details on the Fantasy Grounds tutorial screen. You will need a license key which can be obtained for free by purchasing a licence for Fantasy Grounds Full (versus Ultimate) 2. Installation and Setup This tutorial will give you instructions to set up the tokens for Tome of Beasts Pack 1. Installing this token pack will require you to have previously added the Tome of Beasts to your bookmark list or added Tome of Beasts to your account on fantasygrounds.net. If you have previously added the tome to your account on fantasygrounds.net you will not need to download this pack. You should be at the Fantasy Grounds tutorial screen by default. Click on the “Begin Tutorial” button. 3. Downloading and Installing Tome of Beasts Pack 1 In order to obtain the latest version of Tome of Beasts Pack 1 from Fantasy Grounds, you must download it from the Fantasy Grounds website (www.fantasygrounds.com). You will also need a license key to download the token pack. To get the token pack from the website, click on the “Add to Account” or “Download Token Pack” buttons. 4. Add Tokens to Fantasy Grounds You will now be brought to a screen where you can add tokens to your tome. Click on the “Bookmark This Token Pack” button. 5. Adding Tokens to the Maps Once you have added the token pack to your bookmarks, you can add the tokens to the maps of the tome. You can add the tokens by selecting the tab (tab “

This month Don gives us a brief history of Fantasy Grounds, provides a summary on where we are today, and shares a few ideas about upcoming features. All a program-related @cronicle. Don Priest: A Brief History of Fantasy Grounds Don Priest: Fantasy Grounds is one of the most popular gaming applications for the Mac. When I first started at Game This, I didn’t know anyone who used it, but now more and more people are using Fantasy Grounds. So this month I’m going to try to give you a brief history of how Fantasy Grounds got started, and where it’s going. Fantasy Grounds was created in January of 1997 by Mark Breese. When Mark first started programming for the Mac, he needed a tool for using multi-user dungeons. They were out there, mostly Rogue, but he wanted something fun and unique, so he decided to go ahead and program it himself. Unfortunately, because Mark didn’t have a job at the time, there wasn’t enough time to get it finished in the six months the product took to finish development. After that, Mark decided to leave the industry. In the meantime, Mark’s buddy Ian Findley had created a PC game named Hex, for the Acorn Archimedes. Ian needed a dungeon generator as well, which Ian knew another programmer named Mike Davidson had been working on. So rather than start programming, Ian hired Mark’s partner in crime, Mike Davidson. They decided to make an all-in-one game programming system for the Mac. Mark wrote the console functions, while Ian wrote the GUI, and Mike added the dungeon generator. Subsequently, Mike, Mark, and Ian decided to start a company together and named it RAI Games. Their first release was a game called Miniturtle which was released under the new company name. Miniturtle had a GUI that looked almost identical to the GUI for Dungeon Keeper, but they didn’t have a dungeon generator. To generate a random dungeon, they had to use a table of random numbers. The problem with this was that it worked good only for very small dungeons. Most dungeons had more than two floors. By the time RAI Games released its first full game, they had written a nice programming language called RAI. They also had a very slick, easy-to-use GUI designer called Workscape. The client
